Enefit will only supply green electricity to households in future

Since July 1, energy company Enefit is the only supplier in Latvia that provides 100% green electricity to all household customers at no extra charge. This means that everyone can easily reduce their impact on the environment by using energy produced from clean, renewable energy sources without generating harmful emissions or pollution. Green electricity will be included in all electricity purchase agreements, both at fixed and exchange prices.

The transition to trading only in renewable energy is driven by the fact that that the Enefit Group is one of the largest green energy producers in the Baltics and its current production capacity allows it to automatically offer green energy at a competitive price to all new customers in the household segment, regardless of the type of contract chosen by the customer. Green electricity is obtained from renewable energy sources – mainly wind, water, sun and biomass. Enefit both produces green energy itself and purchases it from other electricity producers in Europe.

"Renewable energy is a significantly cheaper energy resource that not only reduces the impact on the environment, but also helps to ensure more stable and lower electricity prices in the long term. For example, in June, thanks to rainfall and wind, significantly more hydro and wind energy was produced than before, which allowed the average electricity price to be reduced by as much as 37% compared to May. With the influx of very cheap electricity from solar, wind and hydro sources, the number of hours when the price remains below 0.5 cents per kilowatt-hour is increasing, including hours with zero or even negative prices. This allows customers who choose exchange prices to make significant savings by consuming energy during hours when prices are lower. However, thanks to efficient green energy production, we can also offer fixed prices for contracts that are equivalent to the lowest prices on the market," explains Edgars Cvetkovs, member of the Enefit board.

The Enefit Group is one of the leading green energy producers in the Baltics. In 2025, Enefit Green's portfolio includes 29 wind farms and 46 solar power plants. On average, the wind farms managed by Enefit Green generate 1.6 terawatt hours of energy per year, while solar power generates 77 gigawatt hours. This amount of electricity is sufficient to cover the average annual electricity consumption of all households in Latvia.

Edgars Cvetkovs also highlights a positive trend in users' preference for green energy: "Over a period of several months, we tested identical price offers for green and conventional electricity produced from fossil fuels. During this time, we observed that in 70% of cases, customers opted for green energy when signing a contract, which confirms the public's awareness of their opportunities to reduce their impact on the environment. This is a positive signal for the further development of renewable energy plants in the Baltic region, which we want to support with this offer.

Households can now choose between two 100% green tariff plans: "Fixed Green" for 12, 18 or 24 months and "Dynamic" at the Nordpool exchange price with no fixed term. "Fixed Green" makes it easier to plan expenses by offering a fixed price per kilowatt hour consumed for the entire contract period, which is not affected by seasonality or other wholesale market factors. With "Dynamic", on the other hand, you can take advantage of price fluctuations and use more electricity when prices are lower, but save when prices rise.
