When does the electricity contract take effect?

To successfully switch electricity providers, it’s important to keep these key deadlines in mind:

  • Switching for the upcoming month: You need to apply for your new contract by the 9th day of the current month. In this case, you will start receiving Enefit services on the 1st day of the very next month.
  • Applying after the 9th: If you submit your contract during the second half of the month (after the 9th), the provider switch will take effect on the 1st day of the month after next.

How to change the electricity contract holder (change of user)?

If you have purchased a new home, are renting a property, or want to change the person signed on the contract for any other reason, the rules for this process are different:

  • Application period: The change of user must be applied for within the current month.
  • Effective date: The contract can start on any date (for example, the 1st, 15th, or 21st) depending on when you actually take over the property.
  • Approval: The distribution system operator (AS "Sadales tīkls") will automatically inform the current contract holder that a property takeover has been requested. If there are no objections, the new contract takes effect on the date you specified.

Early termination fee

The terms for ending a contract depend on the type of electricity plan you have chosen:

  • Dynamic (Market Price) Plan: This plan offers complete freedom, and there is no fee for early termination. You can switch from the market price plan to any of the fixed-price options at any time for free.
  • Fixed-Price Plans: Because energy is bought in advance to guarantee your fixed price, these plans have an early termination fee of €9 for each remaining quarter until the end of the contract term.

The cancellation fee will be added to your final bill if:

  • You change an active fixed-price plan to another option before the contract ends (for example, switching from Fixed 12 to the Dynamic plan after using it for 9 months will result in a €9 fee).
  • You cancel the contract completely because you are moving out of the property and the electricity connection is no longer needed.
  • You sell the property and the contract holder for that location changes.
